Honeygain is a legitimate passive-income app that allows you to earn money by sharing your unused internet bandwidth through your smartphone or computer.
At first glance, Honeygain seems like an incredible way to earn “free money.”
But is Honeygain safe? Is it actually worth using?
I personally tested the app, and in this Honeygain review, I’ll share my experience, payout results, and some of the best alternatives.
What Is Honeygain?
Honeygain is a passive-income application that lets users sell their unused internet bandwidth—essentially acting as a node inside a VPN-like network. This means that when Honeygain is running on your device, other users from around the world can use your IP address to browse the web.
So instead of being a customer, your IP address becomes the product being sold to others.

If you’ve ever used a VPN that lets you browse from a different country, you already understand the concept behind Honeygain.
According to Honeygain:
“By sharing your internet connection through Honeygain, our business partners can access the web from your location. This helps them view the internet as real users see it—without geo-restrictions or censorship.”
Who uses Honeygain’s network?
Here are a few use cases listed on their website:
.Brand protection (checking brand results and counterfeit goods worldwide)
.Ad verification
.App and website testing
.Accessing geo-restricted content
.Price comparison
In short, Honeygain pays you for letting businesses use your unused internet bandwidth.
Is Honeygain Legit?
Yes. Honeygain is legitimate and does pay its users for sharing data.
It has thousands of positive reviews and plenty of online payout proofs. The company also holds a Trustpilot rating of 4.6 stars with over 16,000 reviews.
When I tested Honeygain myself, I received a small amount of earnings for sharing data and was able to withdraw successfully after a few weeks (helped by referral bonuses). I can confirm the app pays.
But here’s the catch:
The earnings are extremely low, especially if you don’t live in the U.S. or Western Europe.
Realistically, you can expect to earn $5–$20 per month at most.
It’s not a scam, but you absolutely need realistic expectations.
Is Honeygain Safe?
Honeygain is generally safe, and you do not give up personal data when using the app. Your shared bandwidth is encrypted, and renters cannot see your private information.
However, there’s one major concern:
Someone else is browsing the internet using your IP address.
This brings a few risks:
.In rare cases, similar services have had users’ IPs tied to illegal activity.
.Some survey websites may ban you for sharing bandwidth with apps like Honeygain.
I strongly recommend reading the privacy policy and, if possible, running Honeygain only on a spare phone or a non-sensitive PC.
If you’re uncomfortable with someone using your IP, simply avoid the app.
How Honeygain Works
I downloaded Honeygain and ran it for about 24 hours. The app is beginner-friendly and simple to use.
There are four steps to start earning:
- Create an Account
Sign up with email or Facebook. The app is free, easy to register, and available globally.
New users also get a $5 sign-up bonus.
- Download the App
Honeygain must run on your device to start collecting Honeygain credits (“Honey”).
It supports these platforms:
.Android
.iOS
.Linux
.macOS
.Windows
There’s no official device limit per account.
- Run Honeygain
Simply keep Honeygain open and running. On mobile, leave it on the home screen; on PC, let the program run in the background.
You earn:
.3 credits for every 10MB of data shared
.1,000 credits = $1
In my own 24-hour test on an older Android phone, I earned only about 0.34 credits—basically nothing. Earnings depend heavily on location and network demand.
- Cash Out
You need $20 to withdraw.
Since 1,000 credits = $1, you must share about 33GB of data to withdraw.
Payouts are processed through Tipalti and sent to PayPal, usually within a couple of days.
Alternatively, you can switch to JumpTask, a crypto partner that:
.Allows instant withdrawals
.Gives a 10% earnings boost
How Much Can You Earn With Honeygain?
Most users earn only a few dollars per month.
Your earnings depend on:
.Your location (U.S. and Europe pay best)
.Your upload speed
.The number of unique IP addresses you have
.How long your devices stay online
Referrals and JumpTask can help boost income slightly.
But overall, Honeygain is very low-paying, even though it requires zero effort.
My Experience Using Honeygain
A friend in Canada also tested Honeygain on two spare Android phones for 24 hours under one IP address. Only one phone worked, and it earned less than $0.001 in a full day—after using over 230MB of bandwidth.
Honeygain states that earnings vary based on:
.Location
.IP demand
.Network speed (50Mbps+ recommended)
Still, even under decent conditions, the payout was extremely low.
In this test, Honeygain was a complete failure. Apps like Pawns.app performed slightly better.
Pros & Cons
Pros
.Zero investment required
.Pays in free PayPal cash
.Instant withdrawal with JumpTask
.$5 sign-up bonus
.Runs passively in the background
Cons
.Very low earning potential
.Must be comfortable sharing your IP address
.Barely pays in many regions
.$20 minimum payout (unless using JumpTask)
.Potential risk of bans on some survey websites
What Other Users Say About Honeygain
I always check Reddit for honest feedback.
Here’s what some users say:
.alinfrk:
“Depends heavily on upload speed. With two PCs on different IPs, I earn about $0.35/day each. It’s small, but completely passive.”
.MajorFPS:
“Safe, but hitting $20 takes a long time unless you run multiple devices.”
.wwetheforesaken:
“Not worth it. You must constantly check the app to make sure it’s running, and updates interrupt it.”
Some people manage $0.45/day—that’s about $12/month, or $144/year in free passive money. Not bad, but far from substantial.
